  • I highly recommend visiting Kyoto despite these news. The city is absolutely beautiful and well worth the tourist tax. I hadn’t experience any prejudice there as a tourist and the local generally like foreigners.

You can also avoid the tax with a day trip as Kyoto is right next to Osaka which is quite cheap.

The overtourism issue is mostly entirely a skill issue as it’s free income that can be controlled through tourist taxes like this one. So this tax is fundamentally a good thing.

  • The best way to get into coding is to surround yourself in it by switching to linux and starting to program your own desktop interfaces (can be through browser too). Once you live in your own software the surface area for motivation is significantly higher so you actually learn stuff. Come up with ways to automate what you do and don’t be afraid to fail.

  • As someone already pointed out it’s a lost game regardless of platform as long as closed source software is used on any machine anywhere it’s fundamentally unsafe. Black market operators like Israel’s Pegasus have been selling ios day 0 exploits for years and there are probably hundreds that exist out there for every single platform.

The good part is that these rare exploits will not be used on you because they are too valuable the bad part is that the only way against them is full system transparency which is not happening anytime soon.
