I wouldn’t say this is comically large. It’s probably larger than average for DnD but not ridiculous.
I may just be spoiled by my own experience though.

While I don’t play any, I’m pretty sure miniature games like Warhammer could definitely take up that much room, especially with four players. A rpg like D&D could use that space too if the party is fighting through an army of undead or some giant monster.
Since it seems more like a board game where everything is in the box, The Campaign of North Africa is considered one of the most complex games made. It’s play area is 34 by 115 inches when all laid out and it’s unknown if anyone ever finished playing a full game.
So yes, games can take up that much space, but they’re typically super nerdy.
