G’day all! Time to sit down with my dinner and read back through your day, as I do when I’ve been too busy to Lemmy. I look forward to reading about your adventures!

Couch came mid afternoon, delivery guy obligingly carried it into the lounge (would have been bloody hard for me to get it in on my own.
Zooks was already sitting on it upside down when I was putting the legs on, and purred for a solid hour once it was all put together.
We’re now happily stretched out while I watch random stuff on YT.

My husband I each have a couch facing each other and he likes to fart up a storm on his side lately so I have told him if his filth breaches international shores I’m gonna unleash my nuclear power aka lavender spray. Tensions have eased today since it’s Friday. A ceasefire if you like.

I’ve seen the kid come in to the room and go “nup” and back out.

It’s not the shopping, it’s not the cooking. It’s thinking what to cook and cleanup that tires me. I know someone that eats the same meal on each night, eg pasta Monday, taco Tuesday etc. Planning is easier sure but I think the boredom would kill me. And the endless life chore of dishes is soul sucking.

I don’t like it but I don’t hate it, I don’t think about it, just do it. Which I suppose is a way of coping with doing doing something tedious and ick.

Go to Aldi and look in the freezer dept. There’s a shit load of stuff in there to give you ideas. Pair freezer stuff to fresh stuff.

      there have been studies!!

It’s not boring to eat the same food.

It helps reduce stress as there is one less choice to make a day and people learn to enjoy a reduced menu.

Can confirm. I was the subject of a focussed study where I cooked and ate green chicken curry every night for 12 months. I loved it. Still love it. Probably couldn’t do it again though on account of family members I’ve picked up since then saying things like I don’t like it, it’s boring, we had it last night etcsigh

Do the dishes bit by bit. Rinse and stack, then wash a few when you make a coffee. Makes it less of task for me at least.

Apparently it has been a year since I last changed power/gas companies, so I have just been through the whole energy compare thing again. It is annoying how much of our lives we have to waste on this stuff, and it sucks that we effectively penalise people who can’t do this. People like to call it a “lazy tax” to put the moral responsibility on individuals, but in reality it is primarily a penalty on people who struggle because of literacy issues, disability, age etc. A civilised society should be able to manage a fair distribution of essential services, instead we have created a system designed to take more from the most vulnerable people.

It’s been a really really long day of talking and meetings but mostly worthwhile. Some genuinely thought provoking stuff. But it really, really stretched out the day :/ At least I get paid for the extra hours (or take it as time in lieu). Having two g&ts and walking home helped take the edge off a lot.

On my way back I also reported an expensive fancy car that was half jutting out onto the footpath of a main road because two other cars were already tandem parked on the driveway. I usually never bother, but eff it. These are rich people in an expensive area, it isn’t some back road, they can cop a fine for being lazy shits.

This weekend has some social stuff but also a lot of financial decisions. Got my bonus and tax return today - yay 🤑! Now come all the expenses 💸… Energy bill came in - big jump in use, 9.42kWh (~$3) day. Need to organise replacement of radio in car with android auto. Need to organise car service. Need dental clean. Need drs appt after like 7 months. Need to rebuild savings. Need to plan how much longer I’ll continue working FT…

But I think about where I was just over a year ago and so many years prior, and I’m SO grateful that I have all these choices now.

It’s insane to me that there isn’t an age cutoff of the standard retirement age for the highest-level job in the country.

If the party steps him down now, it’d be the responsible thing to do but it’d show weakness and go back on everything they’ve been saying (that he’s fine) and they seem too arrogant to do that. Plus the fickle media/voters would probably label the party as unstable (which maybe they are) and lose them the election.

If they leave him on and he dies soon, the party looks stupid for not standing him down sooner and if he dies after winning there would be a lot of talk about the intention of getting the VP in as president without people voting for them… another issue with their entire system of voting for the “president” and not the party/policies.

If they leave him on and he keeps kicking and wins, you’d have to trust that serious people are actually running the country and he’s just rolled out to flub through speeches and shake some hands. If he loses then they have 4 more years of a cartoon-supervillain president assuming he lives through them.

I don’t see a way back for the USA from the crips vs bloods level of division their people are in plus their need to make politics into entertainment. The hero-worshipping of their politicians is baffling to me. They’re politicians!

This is essentially the scenario if Biden wins. He’s been in politics long enough to know how things work and what can be done through which channels. He’s good at putting experience people in the right positions in his cabinet. He’s got contacts and is still very much a ‘Statesman’. I doubt he has a strong guiding hand in many of the policies, but rather acts in an advisory capacity.

Trump is the exact opposite, where he has no idea what he’s doing BUT wants to be involved.

Best case scenario, Biden wins, governs for a while, resigns and Harris is Pres until end of term. Her legal background might make her much ruthless than Biden in dealing with Trump and his ilk.

I can’t imagine wanting to do a job that big at that age. If I make it to 80 I would like zero responsibility thank you, time to potter around or travel or whatever fun looks like in the moment. Not running a bloody country.

fuck the dems are shit at campaigning

the team should be spending their time attacking trump and the gop, not infighting

that will leave Joe to run his own campaign

and when joe wins after a year or so he can resign and kamala can take over

the problem as I see it is Trump could have a stroke on stage and his people would still vote from him. President Biden sadly cant rely on insanity of his supporters, the downside of being the “good” guy I suppose.

    aww shittttttttt

when out for my daily stomp a month or so ago I noticed something that looked very very promising being built on Cochrane’s road. From an open door of a recently sold warehouse I spied what looked an awful lot like a looping indoor track under construction. “Wah wah you’re crazy” the husband said “wah wah it’s the tile area, probably the conveyer track for marble cutting or something”

Well the signage is up and who’s wah wahing now my friends? HA!
