I think if these trans-/homophobic people actually got to know a few trans/gay people, they’d actually see they’re usually decent people who just want to live their life and usually not harm anyone.
Unfortunately it’s why fighting for trans rights is such an uphill battle, and why lgbtq and feminist solidarity is so important. The trans population is just so tiny compared to other vulnerable groups that it makes humanizing face to face interactions more rare.
Yeah, I don’t think we give enough credit to shows like Will and Grace or Queer Eye that showed the greater population examples of relatable people from the community. We are a long ways from having trans representation that way.
That and the “traditional” gay population makes up anywhere from 5-10% of the entire population, which is huge compared to the .3 -.5% of people who identify as trans.
It’s also why the democratic party as a whole isn’t willing to stick up for the trans community, they aren’t statistically relevant to the only thing they care about, elections.
There’s more to the trans hate, but yeah, the minuscule population makes them a great target if you want an “other” to fight. Conservatives lost the battle against the LGB part and aimed for the T.
And the first step is in the schools.
Children copies beliefs, and by teaching everyones equal value and pointing out that lbtq people are no different than anyone else, the foundation for change in views is set.
I know several people who’s parents are homophobic but they’re not, and I credit our schools for this.

Anyway, enough about that. Congrats OOP!

I have heard a gay person being mad at trans people and I was baffled.

almost. the only thing they care about is the next election.
