So I have been giving it a lot of tries. I have to say I just don’t like it. I want to like it, but its just so hard to use. Either I shoot too early and don’t get the max damage it can do or it blows up. On the blowing up the beeping sound gives to little warning. I keep hearing it and letting go as soon as I can and it will just blow up. I have some better luck in first person view, but still find it unwieldy. Am I really just in the skill issue?

That’s the neat part! You don’t!

It’s a gun I want to like, being able to be a sort of flex weapon. But as a helldivers YouTuber put it “the epoch does two jobs, and frankly it’s about to fired from both”

It’s got a bit of an identity crisis, and yes you can make flex weapons work, but the epoch is high risk, little reward, if I want anti tank why not bring a recoiless or quasar , if I want CC why not the grenade launcher

Both do a better job and I won’t explode violently if I don’t edge the gun just right

Its damage is ok but the downsides don’t justify it. but the AOE is horrendous. And I could forgive some of this if it could close bug holes

Basically a weapon I in theory like, theoretically doing both anti tank and chaff blasting but horrible at both

Its high risk for little reward

There is some skill for the weapon as it will hum when close but yeah the weapons not great

And its shame, it’s got the workings of a fun weapon, high risk, and if you can manage that risk as well as a stationary reload you can have a weapon that deals both with CC and antitank

I want this weapon to be good, when the stars align and you hit a hulk crit or enemies are in its micro aoe it’s glorious

I am also unsure what its use case is. I can usually get it to p 80-90% power, but it still takes several shots to kill large things. The plasma cannon fills the “charged anti-tank” role better.

It’s decent at crowd control, but isn’t as consistent or easy to use as a grenade launcher.

It seems like a weapon that tries to fill multiple roles but isn’t great at any of them. I still use it occasionally, but I rarely think “I’m glad I brought this.”

I noticed that and was not sure if I was not charging it to the max potential.

It’s definitely just how the thing works. Since it has so many shots it’s not as powerful as a basic EATs, but if you are used to how it works you can quickly down a couple bigguns without needing to reload and without needing to call down more (like the commando) afterwards.

I want to like it but I can’t. The charging has a very tiny sweet spot which is easier to detect via audio.

But audio for weapons is very unstable right now, making it very difficult to find.

Also, as others have said it’s very much a jack of all trades, but not as good. It’s almost like the AC, but without a backpack, for less power, less range, less consistency etc…

It can do more AT stuff than the autocannon buy given all the other downsides it’s a weapon that’s basically asking too much for a “meh” payoff. If it had a larger blast or more damage (maybe different firing modes) plus a more forgiving hot spot it would be a pretty fun option I feel.

I wanted to use the Epoch as a bigger version of the railgun. It fails on every level.

Thankfully, the Harpoon does nearly everything I wanted.

Being a bigger version of the railgun is why I don’t like it. Firing on button release throws off my aim. Makes it nearly impossible to get one shot kills.

Two friends love the Epoch and are very effective with it, so I’m confident it is my inability to hit small vulnerabilities.
