Polish people are absolutely discriminated against in some countries, they were the main target of hostility towards migrants around a decade ago in the UK for instance. Not everywhere has an American understanding of whiteness

but that was white europeans being targeted for their white european nationality. not racism, and to the extent that you can say it WAS racism, it could only be defined that way with the absurd white elite’s constant redefining of who “gets to be white”.

italians are closer to being PoC than Poles and nobody thinks its racist to make fun of italians, because they’re now accepted as white

i by the way, am not “an american”. im iranian and mexican. i just happen to live here because people tend to escape the wrath of the whites by coming here

“polish people are discriminated against in some countries” just gives “i was the only white guy at my school and black people were racist to me”. im not saying they weren’t mean to you, but racist? i dont think so

i also want to point out, 10 out of 10 times someone was being prejudiced towards a pole, if there were an african in the vicinity or an easterner then the pole would have been spared. 9 out of 10 times the pole may have even joined in being racist.

Yea I agree. It’s a confusing musical chairs of terminology going on.

“If poles experience racism, it’s not really racism because they’re white. If they experience racism anyway it’s because they aren’t white.” Not making sense lol. I don’t see the explanatory purpose in hyper specifying racism just to exclude people who visibly appear white even when the character of the situation is extremely similar to any conventional racism. Race is not a purely biologically property of humans - it results from a social phenomenon of racialization - so having light skin does not inherently make someone white. I’m kinda scared to know what that user thinks about the Irish.

Whiteness doesn’t actually exist, you know? It’s a malleable social concept and applies to different groups of people based on the time and place. I don’t care if Polish people are considered white in 21st century America. They aren’t in a lot of Europe which is what I’m talking about. And they weren’t even white in America until relatively recently. I mean millions of Polish people were slaughtered during the first Holocaust for god’s sake. You can apply the same hypothetical argument about “if there was a black person around…” to Arabs too, it doesn’t mean that there’s not a Holocaust going on against Palestinians right now.

The only thing mods have ever needed to remove after they added the block button was actual bigotry, transphobia, csam illegal shit, and capitalist apologia, but instead they think their job as internet hall monitor is to police speech and opinions and, when people dislike this, it’s "these fucking users just want a cesspool ooooooooooooooh "

Because there’s no middle ground at all between “cesspool” and “constantly vibe-moderating enforcing personal opinions on wrongthought, frequently based on the mod just straight up misreading or misinterpreting shit” 😑😑😑😑😑😑😑😑

My opinion is if you don’t belong at the bottom of a pit for saying it the mods don’t need to fucking do anything and if you disagree you’re a nerd. sometimes they act like the Hexbear stock price is going to crash in value if they let a shitty opinion go undeleted and i don’t get it, literally making work for themselves imo

nah people who are consistently hostile and abusive

what happens when one of them is a mod which was like at least 33% of the most recent drama bomb struggle session over this shit

new users don’t know who the missing stairs are that they should block

I don’t understand your words here but i don’t think people need curated block lists when “if you deserve to be thrown into a pit for your opinion” covers all actual crimes that aren’t just vibed out in the moment by the mod

Edit: actually sorry there is a problem with the block function, which reddit solved forever ago, where instead of just saying BLOCKED USER/COMMENT but allowing you the option to see further down the comment chain it’s just straight up black hole’d

a “missing stair” is a bad actor in a community that regulars know about and let off or make excuses for instead of holding them accountable or kicking them out.

“touch grass 6 feet under” should probably be a ban
