    I know America is a giant cesspool right now, but I still like to cling onto the values and lessons I was raised on as a kid.

    Today on 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by congress and the United States was born. I was taught that the founding fathers were fighting for freedom, liberty, representation. These were the first Americans who wanted to be heard and declared themselves a new nation from one of the biggest empires in the world.

    Now there are multiple opinions on the past, present, and future of the US, but I was raised on the notion that the American spirit means standing up for ourselves. This nation is for the people, and we will not listen to any tyrants. To quote the actual document in question:

    “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
