Troy@lemmy.cato You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK - a very comprehensive guide on how to avoid "very"4·24 hours agoVery very
Depending on what you’re cooking, that is a desirable feature – well, riding right on that threshold.
Note that burnt butter is distinctly bad for your health. All those complex proteins and fats all getting thrown through the chemical grinder… But damn is it tasty to fry a perogy in almost burnt butter compared to any of the oils in that chart…

Assuming he decided to put tariffs on China, he probably would have raised tariffs slowly, announcing everything clearly in advance. So the market has time to spin up alternatives instead of sudden shocks causing inflation.
Not since like 2010. Unless you’re still using spinning disks somewhere in an old NAS in a closet.
Well, okay, might also depend on your definition of strong.
Yeah, if they’re dead serious about it, this is much funnier. In the haha, society is so fucked sense.
I wash as I cook. Usually you have moments when you’re waiting anyway. Means I have serving dishes only afterwards.
Had to make it a habit though in order to force myself to do it. Took years to train the habit.

Troy@lemmy.caOPto Music@lemmy.world•If I like: Portishead (and Beth Gibbons), any recommendations for more?English1·4 days agoThanks for the rec! Listened to two albums, “>>>>>” and Kosmic Music.
Really liked the first one despite the lack of Beth Gibbons’ iconic vocals.
The second one felt like a concept album, but I still listened to it three times on loop – I have a soft spot for SpaceMusic (so much so that I moderate the quiet !SpaceMusic@lemmy.ca ) and was completely caught unaware by this album existing. So, thanks!
Troy@lemmy.cato Woodworking@lemmy.ca•My dad's latest project. He's 98. Used a scroll saw and drill.2·6 days agoIt’s funny. I have a Proxxon manual mini metal lathe and mill combo which I bought new. And it’s absolutely fantastic (for its price). Proxxon occupies this weird niche in the market where they try to make a suite of entry level tools that professionals would use, but they’re still hobby grade in many ways. Good tools to learn about tools.
Perhaps it is price though. I paid almost $3k for my lathe/mill combo from them, fully kitted out. The DS230 is like $300 when new, which is damned cheap for something not made in China. Could be that you got what you paid for :/

Likely placeholder art making it into production because no one is checking, rather than a deliberate policy. But still bad form.
Troy@lemmy.caOPto Music@lemmy.world•If I like: Portishead (and Beth Gibbons), any recommendations for more?English1·6 days agoThe trip hop is irrelevant – my favourite Portishead album is actually Third, which largely left trip hop behind. And Beth Gibbons solo album from last year.
Mostly, it’s a combination of interesting song structures, Beth Gibbons’ vocals and lyrics. As Portishead evolved (and later as she went solo), it became more artistic and less poppy. And I like the later stuff more.
Still like the early stuff, granted. :)

Road trip needs albums haha. Will check everyone’s recs. Thanks folks!
Troy@lemmy.caOPto Music@lemmy.world•If I like: Portishead (and Beth Gibbons), any recommendations for more?English2·8 days agoAssume for a second that I listen to it not because it is trip hop, but because of Beth Gibbons’ vocals. Would you change that recommendation?
I switched to Firefox on Android about a year ago, with ublock plus. It helps, but doesn’t solve the underlying issue.
I tried finding the original article to see what it looks like for me. And it more or less matches the above, except I think I have more screen real estate on my phone.

It’d be sad to replace this at this point haha. But I’ve never seen an A battery either so…
