So there is only one Russian floating nuclear power plant and it has a permanent location in Chukotka. This isn’t much like what you described to be honest.

It’s just beekeeping that’s causing issues.
pulsewidth@lemmy.worldto Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•Can we afford to be afraid of nuclear power?2·16 hours agoThis is the first time I’ve ever read of China or Russia using “vessels with onboard nuclear power plants to source energy through these periods - and then move on to help somewhere else.”
I searched and cannot find any source to back this claim, do you have one?
Because the only vessels I know of with onboard nuclear reactors are naval aircraft carriers and submarines, and neither of those ship classes are designed to deliver power to shore.

They discuss this and discount it in the opening paragraphs.
One might be tempted to explain the disparity as a natural consequence of women living longer. But those studying the disease say that wouldn’t account for such a large difference, and they’re not precisely sure what would.
While many factors may be at play, researchers are zeroing in on two where the biological differences between women and men are clear: chromosomes and menopause

pulsewidth@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•The destruction of Palestine is breaking the worldEnglish2·1 day agoWhat you’re failing to include in your calculations is how cheap political sway is to buy worldwide. You don’t need to be the wealthiest nation in the world to place several $50k political donations per year to the two major parties and some of their key politicians, and keep a lobbying firm in the nation’s capital well-funded to wines and dines key politicians and journalists.
Manufacturing consent is financially trivial for Israel, they’ve been practicing it for 50 years and the machine is institutionalized.
pulsewidth@lemmy.worldto People Twitter@sh.itjust.works•Grok, even in its manipulated state, continues to emphasize the facts. And that's hurting the feelings of a lot of Twitter users.20·1 day agoIts the same with the IRS cuts. For every dollar spend funding the IRS, they get $6 back - and they’ve found its non-linear. For every dollar spent auditing high-income earners (top 10%), the IRS gets $12 back.
So guess which department in the IRS that DOGE and Trump targetted for heaviest defunding?

Gotta wonder when Russia and China will decide to be more open in this new cold war and hand larger weapons to Iran.

Though this does mean a child (or childish friend) could do it accidentally. I’d prefer a duress PIN, but then I’d probably forget it if I ever really needed it.
There’s also a less nuclear ‘panic trigger’, that allows you to hide apps or choose to uninstall any apps you like. No PIN needed, simply hold the power button and select ‘Panic Trigger’, there’s then a fullscreen 5 second countdown before your select private/sensitive data is obliterated… unless you hit cancel. The user can set up in advance what the panic trigger does - eg which apps to uninstall (deleting their data and auth keys), all cloud provider apps with sensitive data such as email apps or cloud storage provider apps are recommended.

pulsewidth@lemmy.worldto Australia@aussie.zone•Cancer rates in Australians under 50 are rising at a pace that's alarming doctors and scientistsEnglish14·2 days agoWe consumed alllll the BPA when we were young and it was unregulated. Same with PFAs in non-stick pans and microwave popcorn bags. Probably dozens of other toxic things that are now regulated but when we were young were heavily used and consumed as we grew.
Aussies also eat a lot of sausages, pies and processed meats, which is now known to be a cancer causer - including bowel cancer. Now we’re getting to the age where damage from all the above starts to manifest as cancers.
The question is did we do all of those things at just a slightly higher rate which led to the higher rates the cancer scientists are seeing now and worrying about - because it’s not like they can go back in time and measure our environmental factors and inputs, they largely have to estimate.

The Israel lobby is all through the western world and has pushed almost every government into the corner of accepting this racist genocidal war lest they be labelled anti-Semitic.
I’ve seen almost all of them and can confirm that if you enjoyed one of the shows here you will probably enjoy each of them.
Today, you learned that not everyone on the Internet is from the USA or Canada.

- defund climate research
- slash FEMA budgets
- slash NOAA budgets & weather funding, including early warning systems.
- go on an general anti-science, politically-motivated defunding spree Texas Trumpers/Republicans:
- cheered it all on, especially when it upset scientific groups, researchers, liberals, greenies
- watched with glee through 2016-2020 as it the de-funding caused or heavily exacerbated many disasters
- voted it back in for 2024, knowing full-well that even stronger defunding anf political zealotry was planned this time round.
Homosexuals:
- were gay
That person: the Trump voters involved got what they voted for, I feel sorry for everyone else.
You: you sound like those preachers that say gays cause earthquakes.
What a terrible analogy. People are allowed to vent frustrations, especially when ‘taking the high road’ has proven to be completely ineffective in changing the opinions of conservatives, and especially ineffective against fascists.
