glimse@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Camp Mystic’s leader got a ‘life threatening’ flood alert. They evacuated an hour later.4·4 hours agoI watched a video of this flood and was floored. It was somehow scarier than the footage of the streets in Japan in 2011.
I guess maybe because of how “calm” it was. It wasn’t a thrashing wall of ocean waves bouncing between buildings, the river just rose and rose until it poured onto the overpass

I also don’t have any either but I have enough friends and family with young kids to know that it’s unrealistic to do everything well so you have to pick and choose which parts of your kids’ lives are worth the extra effort.
Every parent I know would jump at the opportunity to outsource the tedious crap. Some people love party planning but for most, there is little enjoyment to be found researching and booking a birthday party for a child.

glimse@lemmy.worldto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL sweat comes out of the pores, which does this when you shaveEnglish49·5 hours agoThe other day I had a weird experience with pores and sweating.
I was given a family-sized bag of chips that were “too spicy” for my parents. They were spicy, sure, but not painfully spicy.
However, my body’s reaction was not the usual sweating… It was to excessively sweat from a square inch spot just above my temple.
I could literally FEEL the sweat coming out of the pores. I went to the mirror and watched it pour out like a damn faucet. It was fascinating but very uncomfortable, both physically and psychologically
Super weird.
Oh, so that’s how you pronounce the new Maruja song

And yet there’s people whose autism is severely debilitating…
I’m certainly not saying autism makes you stupid but people diagnosed with it have a huge range of intelligence so it’s unfair to say it “makes you smarter” IMO. There’s no proof of causation even if it often does correlate
Maybe anon should get some better games
Autism and other personality disorders don’t make you smarter or faster, either…

Ah, ok. I’m guessing the law is that pay cards can’t be the only option then
I’ve never heard of McDonald’s employees getting paid in preloaded cards, is that true? I know plenty of people do it to avoid taxes but McDonald’s is a major employer and that’s pretty damn illegal
