Once Germany joined EU and uses Euro, it is like a currency depreciation making their goods more cost effective in the world market. Thus Germany enjoys a huge trade surplus. It’s not a coincidence Germany has had huge trade surpluses since they went to a common currency. This surplus would shrink if they went back to their own currency, as the Mark will appreciate due to the trade surplus vs other currencies making their goods less competitive in global market.
