The letter is suggesting that the vote counting machines were compromised, adding fake digital votes to the total after it had counted all of the real physicsl ballot votes. The letter suggests that a hand count of the physical voted would show the manipulation, because the extra digital votes would not show up in the physical ballots.

I’m not experienced enough to know for sure if those claims would truly hold water, but to my layman mind, it sure does sound like a compelling case to at least do a hand count.

Python Crash Course by Eric Matthes is a supremely good book to start with for an absolute beginner, and I would recommend it over Automate the boring stuff (that would be a great followup though!).

It assumes absolutely no prior knowledge, explains concepts extremely clearly, never presents too much to overwhelm and frustrate beginners, and includes a good range of projects that should interest any perspective programmer.

In the past, I would comment about Lemmy whenever there were posts about reddit messing up, and would get a mostly favorable response. I also got positive responses from privacy focused communities, who tend to be more willing try alternatives since they already are willing to switch or compromise on apps for increased privacy.

I think XMPP would be the most appropriate tech for us to adopt, since it’s easily self-hostable, has great mobile apps, is federated, and doesn’t require an always connected bot to record chat history to know what was said while you were away. It’s functionally an improved IRC.

Perhaps Lemmy.Cafe?

Lemm.ee and Lemmy.zip are both quite large and active instances (with 3,000 and 500 active monthly users, respectively), where as .Cafe is still quite small, which would help spread the load better.

Appealing aspects:

1. Established and trusted instance with an active admin
2. Updates to the latest lemmy versions quickly
3. Defederated with only a handful of extreme instances, giving it excellent reach across the threadiverse
4. Participates in Lemmy-Federate, making it easier for a new community to get started
5. General use instance, making any community appropriate

I’m going to be moving a couple of my communities from Lemmy.World to .Cafe shortly, and the admin was more than happy to host them when I asked, so I imagine he’d feel the same about an Ask community. Something to consider at least. :)

My fear is that there will be a rugpull at some point in the future and I’ll have to find an alternative solution
