Who reads this anyway? Nobody, that’s…. Oh wait. Some people do. I guess I should put something worth reading in here then. Well here’s a test. How much text can you put in here? Who knows? We’ll find out together.
I could write just about anything here, and it wouldn’t really matter. I could go on an on about nothing in particular, and there would still be space left unused. If you’re like really verbose, you could write about any pointless topic without ever reaching a conclusion, and you wouldn’t even hit the character limit. Like, how long could this text be before you hit the wall? Surely, there’s a limit? You can’t just dump a chapter of lorem ipsum in here, now can you?
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Phasellus mollis urna sit amet augue mollis interdum. Praesent sed massa eu quam vestibulum elementum. In pharetra sodales
Wow, that’s a lot of text. Previously, you couldn’t have this much, but now they’ve changed the settings, which is pretty neat.

Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyzto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Have you tried self-hosting your own email recently?English2·3 days agoI really like the idea of having my own server, where I could have a bunch of cool stuff like email, VPN, Nextcloud, and so much more. The primary reason why I don’t have a server like that, is because I can’t trust myself to follow the best practices. For a while now, I’ve been thinking that I should hire a proper professional to take care of all that.
Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyztoPeertube@lemmy.ml•Brainstorm: Improving Lemmy <-> PeerTube Federation2·3 days agoPeople who make videos on Nebula, usually also publish on YT. Publishing the same videos on PT should be fine, and some people who make linux videos are already doing that.
However, making videos takes time, money and effort, so how would the compensation work on PT? For many people, making videos is more than just a hobby.
People on Nebula may also have exclusive some videos (Nebula Originals), so I think keeping those on Nebula is the only realistic option. People who want to see those videos, can pay for Nebula, and support the channels they like that way.
Economies of scale play a role too, and China certainly has that. Neglecting the environment and employee rights aren’t really a big deal in there, but in Germany they are. On top of that, there are also big differences in living standards, which is reflected in the wages. All of that stacked together, and you end up with massive price differences.
You need to add more slavery and exploitation to the production method to make it cheaper.

Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyzto Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•I actually really like the aesthetic of the Tesla Cybertruck.English3·5 days agoI have similar feelings about the Opel Ampera. Cool tech, bad car. It’s basically like those diesel electric trains, where a traditional engine makes electricity and an electric motor turns the wheels.
Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyzto science@lemmy.world•AI tool detects LLM-generated text in research papers and peer reviewsEnglish2·6 days agoThe classic “I didn’t have the time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead” excuse doesn’t really apply any more. Ramble as much as you feel like and let the LLM worry about refining it into coherent communication. Minor tweaks are also welcome, if the original post is short enough.
Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyzto Science@mander.xyz•Researchers revive the pinhole camera for next-gen infrared imaging1·6 days agoYeah well, passive components are nice, but occasionally you just need to spend some energy to keep the components doing its thing.
Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyzto science@lemmy.world•AI tool detects LLM-generated text in research papers and peer reviewsEnglish3·6 days agoCan confirm. I usually swipe so aggressively that weird mistakes sneak in. Plus, I tend to ramble, so having an LLM clean up the mess I leave behind is genuinely helpful. Even this message was proofread by one to fix all the silly errors I tend to make. Before posting, I still double-checked to make sure the core message matched what I intended. Sometimes they tweak things too much or throw in something unexpected.
You can tell it was rewritten, can’t you? All that fancy language just doesn’t feel quite natural.
So if you want to know what EU politicians are up to, you can ask the Chinese, Russians and Americans. They should have a comprehensive list of all the skeletons these politicians are hiding in their closets.
Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyzto Science@mander.xyz•Researchers revive the pinhole camera for next-gen infrared imaging1·6 days agoIs that a problem though? As long as the new camera is better than the old one, it should be fine.

No matter what you do, it gets pretty dark pretty quick. You could stay in the moral gray area or dive into some really dark topics.
Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyzto Privacy@programming.dev•Stock Android users, are you considering switching your phone to another OS such as /e/os, GrapheneOS, LineageOS?2·7 days agoYeah, Android has been getting worse. I still remember when I could still install apps on an SD card. Suddenly, the next version of Android just removed that feature, and I was stuck with the pitiful 16 GB of onboard storage even though I had a 32 GB card at the time.
Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyzto Privacy@programming.dev•Stock Android users, are you considering switching your phone to another OS such as /e/os, GrapheneOS, LineageOS?4·7 days agoYears ago, I switched to an iPhone. It’s awful, but the alternatives were even worse.
Before that, I experimented with everything: full de-Google setups, vanilla Android approaches, and compromises like LineageOS with Gapps. None of them were good enough for me. The middle ground (LineageOS + Gapps) served me for years, but eventually, essential apps started requiring vanilla Android, which I refuse to use due to privacy concerns.
At this point, I still prioritize functionality and reliability, so stock Android and iOS are the only realistic options. I’m not a journalist in a dictatorship, so my data leaking isn’t a life-or-death issue, but Google’s data-exploitative business model makes Android the worse of the two evils. Both platforms have major flaws, but blatant privacy violations are a dealbreaker for me.
In an ideal world, LineageOS or GrapheneOS would work seamlessly with all apps, but that’s no longer the case. The perfect OS is out of my reach.
If my needs were still limited to calls, SMS, and email—like in the 2000s—there’d be plenty of great FOSS options. But the 2020s demand more, and the FOSS world hasn’t kept up.
I’m seriously considering using my laptop for 99% of my computing needs in the future.

Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyzto Off My Chest@lemmy.world•Am I just a straight woman who wants to feel different?English1·9 days agoI think we’re touching some interesting topics here.
The social and societal expectations may, and often do, clash with our personal feelings and thoughts. In order to function as a part of the community, we have to restrain ourselves to some extent. Doesn’t change the way actually feel about things inside, but we can change the way we react and express those feelings.
Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyzto Off My Chest@lemmy.world•Am I just a straight woman who wants to feel different?English1·9 days agoThis is the important distinction. You don’t have to like everything personally, but you should understand that someone else might like what you dislike.
Besides, you probably like something odd like tomatoes, and I merely tolerate them as long as there’s enough salad dressing to camouflage them. There are even some who have zero tolerance for tomatoes, and that’s ok too. If you like tomatoes, go for it. If not, go with something else. It’s fine, don’t worry about it.

All of them have at least one. Usually it’s 2-4 emojis per post, but some have way more. Seems like a deliberate marketing tactic.
