  • The fact that you are saying this after everything I’ve said tells me you either haven’t been actually reading anything I’ve written or you care more about demonstrating your Purity than actually being effective at anything.

Do you actually think that this is the best use of your time and energy? Scolding someone for posting a benign reference to HP on as you have already stated a queer-friendly instance? A reference that as I’ve said already does more to introduce HP fans to She-Ra than it does to boost fucking Harry Potter of all things. How does this post not existing do literally anything to deplatform fucking Joanne Rowling?

There is much more value in saying “Hey, did you like Harry Potter but hate the transphobic shrew that made it? Have I got some good news for you!” than there is in scolding them for a benign reference like you’re doing.

!Edit: let me guess, your next line is that there’s no such thing as a benign reference to Harry Potter.!<

  • You’re still doing exactly what I’m talking about. Do you really think that a passing reference to the 4 houses which have long since transcended the books to become their own brand of nerd astrology is in any way comparable to the entirety of the book series that to this day still literally puts money in Joanne’s pocket? This is exactly the lack of nuance I’m talking about.

Don’t you think that there might be some value in using those connections to HP to push people into actually good series by actually good people instead? That referencing HP in a way that doesn’t monetarily or culturally benefit Joanne and tying the dynamics that many nerds fell in love with into those newer series could pull fans away from her? That some people might relate to those descriptions and actually try out a show like She-Ra?

  • They could, and this tweet could also be from before Joanne decided to start showing how evil her views on trans people are. When nobody could reasonably expect ND or anyone else for that matter to have started avoiding Joanne’s shit. Her Tweet in support of that other transphobe Maya whatever was on December 12, 2019. Two days after this tweet from ND. The only thing anybody “knew” about her transphobic stance was that she’d publicly liked a video by some other transphobe but claimed it was an accident that happened while she was taking a screenshot.

Maybe we could be a little charitable about an objectively speaking rather benign post that comes from the Before Times and still makes an amusing and interesting point about some beloved characters? Even if it does make passing reference to HP.

To be entirely clear. Joanne and everything she stands for can fuck all the way off back to the darkest corner of her fucking castle of mold. But that doesn’t mean we collectively have to entirely cut ties with absolutely everything that so much as mentions terms from HP. I may not be a trans woman, but Joanne would still hate my nonbinary ass for having had the absolute audacity to have been born bearing a penis. There’s room for nuance here.

  • No problem! It can be very confusing when you’re first getting into manga trying to figure out how you move through the panels. Once you get the hang of the ideas though most mangaka nowadays have been pretty good at laying out their panels to kind of draw your eyes naturally through the page in the order you need to go.

  • Basically the priority is to make as many unbroken right to left lines across the whole page as possible. You don’t generally move down unless you’ve reached the leftmost edge of the page. Notice how here if I draw lines across the panels to show the path my eyes take and read 12 before 10-11 my reading line is going to run back into the line I made already? So you read 9 and go to the next line, considering 12 to be part of that lower line so that your reading lines don’t intersect.

  • You tend to finish the right to left line to the end of the page before moving down any. So if 2 panels are in the same “line” like 2 and 3 are, then you finish out that line before moving down. In a case where one panel is larger and spans multiple lines it’ll generally be laid out to belong to it’s lowest line if it’s on the left side of the page, or the highest line on the right side of the page. So since 12 covers both the line with 9, and the one with 10 and 11 on it you’ll generally read it as belonging to that lower line and it’ll be 12.

  • To add to this, for many phobic leaning people they have never actually met a trans person in their lives. The most exposure they have to us is the propaganda they’ve been fed for years about how we’re all either groomers or were ourselves groomed into being trans. The closest a lot of them have come to a real life trans person is a cis woman they’ve mistakenly labeled as trans in their minds because they find her kind of ugly.
