I think the comment is the way fascism takes root is through greed and profiteering. If those traits/values weren’t rewarded they wouldn’t build power the same way.

While Capitalism might be relatively new in the history of humanity, greed isn’t and and in many ways Capitalism can be argued to be just greed as a virtue.

Now greed, that in many ways has been described as the root of all evil. Yes, there are arguments about Pride being worse or more fundamental, but greed is persistent and eternal in how often it comes up.

Greed as a human trait is very problematic. If we removed greed from humanity what systems of being would be affected? Creativity, progression, ambition, exploration. All of it comes from the same source of dreams and desire.

The problem with fascism isn’t the economic system underpinning it but the authoritarianism that leads to oppression. A Marxist one party state would result in the same oppression, and makes this meme pretty disingenuous.

The sweet spot where any form of government is strong enough enforce fairness without turning to oppression is, as it turns out, pretty hard for us to figure out.

Hell, Trump himself has shifted me from neutral on communism to antagonistic. Can you imagine if the current checks and balances failed, as they currently are, and he could control the supply chain?

I believe the root that causes the rot is corruption. Countries that are liberal and have low corruption index do well and people are happy living there.
