A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Under previous policy, we had advised that someone with a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) may be searched in accordance with their acquired sex, however as an interim position while we digest yesterday’s judgement, we have advised our officers that any same sex searches in custody are to be undertaken in accordance with the biological birth sex of the detainee.

“We are in the process of reviewing the implications of the ruling and will consider any necessary updates to our policies and practices in line with the law and national guidance.”

But beforehand an assigned-big-hairy-bloke-at-birth could claim to be female one day and strip search an afab woman the next day.

So either way, women are going to be strip searched by big hairy blokes

Wasn’t that something that the Scottish were just handing out left and right?

Have you considered looking stuff up instead of spouting lies on the internet?

In Scotland you’re required to live in your aquired gender for two years with the intent to do so permanently, you also need a diagnosis from a gender specialist as well as your GP.

There isn’t really a discussion to be had here, you said something untrue and now you’re being corrected.

If you want to have a discussion, why don’t we talk about where you’re getting these ideas from and why you believe them. What makes you think police officers are changing their gender on a day by day basis?

That’s why I’m asking here, to balance it out and get a more balanced and well rounded viewpoint. Not everybody wants to live in an echo chamber.

Though I have no direct personal experience myself, from others I know, I was given the impression it takes a lot of complicated legal paperwork, medical proof, over half a year and about £1000. That’s in England though - I’m not sure if the process is streamlined in Scotland in any way.

Fair enough, although weren’t the Scottish able to get that via a deed poll?

Last time I checked, a deed poll doesn’t let you change your gender, deed polls are for changing your name. You don’t even have to be trans for that. I foresee many tragedeighs changing their names as soon as they’re old enough, for example.
