While the plans would ban sugary and high calorie sweets, they would also exclude purchases of diet sodas and fruit juice with less than 50 percent natural juice.
I think that if someone has food stamps, they should be able to buy any food they want. As long that they have the needed amount of food stamps. It’s one thing if a person is upset possibly over someone spending up to a certain amount “using their money.” but to go as far as to target the specific item, even if they spend a minimum on soda and candy compared to other foods I disagree with way at looking at things.
You’re either targeting the amount of food stamps a person spends, or the specific items they spend these stamps on.
I didn’t even know you could buy soda with food stamps, and McDonald’s and etc is/was banned at some point or still is, to spend food stamps on. It’s like you’re purposely hurting the people that don’t know how to make food or that just want to escape from life for like 1 minute+ by enjoying some soda or some type of candy with the food stamps.

Nutritional food. Not junk food or soda or candy.

Soda and candy isn’t cool. Nothing to do with making food. People need to start taking charge of their own lives. If you don’t know how to cook, learn. It’s not hard to cook basic things.
But since you feel so strongly about them having whatever they want, you can def buy them all the candy and soda you want to. Just do it with your money, not mine. I am fine with you buying them a cartfull of crap. As long as it’s not foodstamps, which is money my taxes go to.
Personally I do buy nutritional food, from broccoli, to lettuce, to blueberries, to salmon. I’m not the type however, to take away from others just because I might not decide to participate in buying something.
I’m not necessarily defending myself here, but more so anyone else other than me, who is using food stamps.
If you’re concerned about the amount people spend of “your money” with food stamps that’s one thing. But in a way targeting *what they buy could be almost like a 1st amendment issue on what people use their food stamps on after they already have the stamps.
I’m not the type however, to take away from others just because I might not decide to participate in buying something.
I think taking away peoples option to buy soda and candy with welfare is a good thing. Again, YOU can buy them all the candy and soda you want. Feel free.
If I give people money, it had conditions. You definitely don’t have to put conditions on the money YOU give to someone. In fact, you can give you whole paycheck to someone and let them buy soda and candy. Good on ya.
But I don’t want to do that. And many others don’t. Nothing about the food stamp program prohibits you from helping out and donating your money for soda and candy. Go the the store, and when you notice someone paying with food stamp card, then be sure to offer them some of your money. I am perfectly fine with you doing that.
However, I don’t want my money that goes to help them out, to go to soda and candy. They can live without soda and candy.
I just don’t get why someone has to go so deep into it and monitor the specific items someone buys with food stamps. If you’re concern with the amount amount of money that goes into food stamps, I think that’s what you should concern over, not the specific item itself that someone decides to buy. If someone can get candy or soda for cheap, why should it matter if they decide to get that specific item?
If taxes were very very expensive I could understand going after the amount of money going into it generally, but worrying over the item they get over the actual amount you are spending just seems very targeting of individuals.

Because the government is giving them access to free groceries. So there are strings attached. If they don’t like those strings, they can refuse to accept the aide. No one is forcing them to accept food stamps. Than can turn them down if the don’t like it coming with rules.
If you’re concern with the amount amount of money that goes into food stamps
AGain, like the article said, it’s that many don’t want our taxes going to people who waste it on soda and candy. Which aren’t healthy anyway. Those are treats, and people buy those as luxury. I’m not giving them money to buy treats, I’m giving them money to buy nutritional food.
YOU an give them money to buy treats. In fact, you can buy the treats and give it to them yourself. You’re free to do that.
If someone can get candy or soda for cheap, why should it matter if they decide to get that specific item?
Because that’s not what the aid is for. It’s that simple.
