Everything Neil Postman was describing in NYC 1985 is USA nation-wide behavior of long-form PUBLIC discourse. This isn’t personal-feed Internet, this is bulletin board public discourse.

The faith is in mocking without any self-awareness of the 5,000 Kremlin alternate reality screen games of mocking Americans vs. Americans. On some level people know MAGA is built upon mocking “liberal tears” and using mocking as a way to conceal and change topics from misunderstandings and ignorance.

Reddit, like Lemmy and Bluesky and Twitter, is a training round for dehumanization of people you disagree with via mocking and non-person. There isn’t any serious discussion of morality problems and why wealthy people come out the way they do, and the audience interaction with icons and status symbols (Musk, Trump, Katy Perry, Dominos Pizza, Amazon rocket / Blue Origin).

How do we get people to treat comprehension as sacred. Donald Trump and Elon Musk are the outcomes of these values, and worse leaders are flocking, forming, being created by the audience using machines this way.
