The response from the free speech crowd has been mixed to nakedly cowardly. PEN America and the ACLU have issued statements and filed lawsuits on behalf of the deported activists. But high-profile āāfree speechā advocates such as Bari Weiss, Jonathan Haidt, David Brooks, David Frum, John McWhorter, and Malcolm Gladwell have either remained silent or championed the arrests. A review of the signatories of the now-infamous 2020 Harperās Letter shows that of those who could issue statements (those who are still alive and not retired from public life), only 24 percent who put their name on the letter defending āāOpen Debateā have come out in opposition to Trumpās war on campus free speech. Some, like Harvardās Steven Pinker, have aggressively spoken out about Trumpās withdrawing of funding from higher education, but have been notably quiet on the kidnapping of international students for the supposed crime of political speech.
They arenāt ādissidentsā they have active terrorist ties to Hamas and committed crimes while on a visa. This would get anyone deported. Personally, I donāt want people in this country who hate it and want me to die. I feel like this shouldnāt even be an issue.

Actually, Iām kind of on board with @spacecadet@lemm.ee. Except Iāve heard @spacecadet@lemm.ee has ties to the Proud Boys and committed crimes and should also get sent to a prison in El Salvador. This would get anyone deported. Personally, I donāt want people in this country who hate it and want me to die. I feel like this shouldnāt even be an issue.
As a matter of fact, letās keep it going but letās pivot away from immigrants and foreigners here on visas. Instead we can just find the people like @spacecadet@lemm.ee who are cheering this on, round them up and go dump them in the ocean to float around with the rest of the garbage thatās already there.
