Im not entirely opposed to paying for stuff like this but if its not open source and completely online dependent, then they can change the terms, price and quality at any time. The actual traffic data cant be open sourced either, because that would give random people access to the location of users. There is nothing preventing them from selling this data to anyone and it should be assumed that they do. They might just be using google data for this anyway tho

Data for the Czech Republic are completely created and managed by the cartographic editors of Mapy.com, while the rest of the world comes from OpenStreetMap. The cartographic editors strive to keep the map continuously updated; however, it may happen that the map does not reflect the real condition in the field. Discrepancies/feedback can be reported via feedback.

Regular OSM doesn’t have elevation data as well as many other info that mapy does provide. And the map visualisation is much better than any competitor IMO, especially for hiking maps.

No, OSM is free for everyone, doesn’t matter if you make profit off of it or not, so they don’t have to pay for anything. They’re choosing to support OSM to help it improve (which is also in their own benefit).

Mapy is a financial supporter of OSM, which isn’t free to develop btw. So they’re not leeching of FOSS labour, they’re helping to make it possible.
