Given the murky definition of antisemitism which was recently adopted in a letter from parlament, this could lead to some very interesting but uncomfortable situations for the government. Such as revoking citizenship from Jews or Israelis critical of Israels current government.
They should just skip all this nonsense and make it illegal to be anti-genocide…
But then they can’t use the broad banner of antisemitism to silence anyone that gets on their nerves. Anti-genocide would just be logical, can’t have that.
I wholly support deeming any form of racism or bigotry unacceptable in a civilized society. The issues comes with fairly enforcing measures like the one proposed here. Who decides whats antisemetic and what isn’t? Germany has been severly cracking down on any form of protest against the fascist regime of Israel and their genocide against Gaza. These protests are already being called antisemtic by the media and the government.
Germanies legal definition of antisemitism includes criticism of Israel.
If by ‘legal definition’ you mean the definition used in the recent letter signed in parlament: That’s not legally binding. It’s basically just a statement with no legal status. But yes it could signal the path the new government might take in the future.
it is not legally binding, but many government bodies treat it like a law, making it tiring to fight against it in the courts all the time.
April fools? I can’t tell how many people support this genocide but wouldn’t that make “a lot” of world population antisemitic? It’s a convenient label for anyone in the way…I hate it here
Yes, it makes a lot of reasonable people antisemitic just because they can see what Israel is doing to Palestinians. Since the policy then can’t be enforced consistently, this kind of situation gives a government a pretext for punishing anyone they dislike for other reasons. It’s still useful to governments to have laws almost everyone breaks, and that are seldom enforced, because then they can choose when, and against whom, to enforce them.
Same thing in the US with college campus protestors. It’s not about defending the Jewish faith from hatred, it’s about silencing dissent.
Ah, of course, it’s not real antisemitism: it’s the kind where you say mass murder and genocide are just as bad when perpetrated by Israeli Jews as they are when carried out by anyone else. And this seems to be part of a worldwide trend that goes along with the lurch toward fascism, for governments to decide they can kick out and disown their own citizens because of their inconvenient political views.
Ironically, the mass killing of a Semitic people , not antisemitism.
The protest against the mass killing of Semitic people, antisemitism.
Israel is pushing for the return of fascism in Europe.
Send them to El Salvador?
Nah fuck Israel
West: arms bloody middle east campaigns
Also West: damn immigrants come here and still complain!
