I feel that this will force Apple to simply retreat from Europe and leave open a hole for another phone developer to emerge that fills the gap, but won’t be as good as Apple.

One can whish! But most likely they’ll just drag their feet with lots of little malicious compliance for as long as possible.

Idk about how good Apple is at developing phones anymore though. I’m sure if they tried to innovate it would be good but they’re experts at slow dripping features invented and released by other manufacturers after many years of already being on the market. They’re late on AI, they’re not the best phone for the photo obsessed, they’re not bringing new exciting things to the phones, and they’re by far not competitive on pricing. Not sure what they really bring other than advertising and planned obsolescence of batteries and other components. I say this fully aware of irony of typing it on an iPhone, which I cannot wait to replace as soon as my car supports android auto or I find a way to spoof car play for bmw v7 car sortware. I have a 2 year old iPhone and it’s been nothing but a downgrade from my ancient galaxy s9 in everything but screen display quality
