I’ve read rumors in various places that another Pi 500 version at a separate price point with perhaps an SSD slot might be in the works. Also, obviously there would be another RAM tier to use, if there were ever to be a version targeting power users.
But does anybody know if anything concrete for these rumors ever showed up? Was there ever any confirmation whether such a different tier Pi 500 is even being thought about?
Sorry if there was news and I just missed it.
I haven’t heard anything, and the idea of having to upgrade tiers to use an SSD turns me off from the product. I’d just buy a pi 5. I use an external keyboard with my pi 400 anyway, so a pi 4 would have been almost as good.
It seems like the SSD slot was cut for cost reasons. That means if there will ever a Pi 500 version with SSD support it would naturally cost more. I’m okay with paying that extra cost, I’m simply curious if there has been any news.
They should have just included it in every model. The premium model will likely have 16gb and cost more because of that too. I’m ok with SSD and 8gb. Also it should have included a built in pointing device, meh.
So there have been rumors of a premium one that are more substantiated? Is there any known timeline?
It’s just speculation afaik
As I remember these rumers were based entirly on the 500 pcb having support for such. As of yet no official info exists on the companies plans for that.
To be precticlecit would need an entir.y new case design. So I’ll likely be a while or a totally new format.
But there are folks who have upgraded the original pcb with just a few capacitors and the m.2 socket. You’d be best of watching those projects and seeing how they go.
