I don’t see a setting in Signal for quick replies, but when I tap the text box to write a message in Signal, I keep getting a “quick reply” shortcut hovering, with the app logo, “Why?”, and an X to close it.
Is this a Signal feature or Android 15 reading the text and generating a potential reply? It’s not my keyboard (Unexpected Keyboard) as far as I can tell, haven’t seen this pop up in any other text entry field yet.
I finally got a picture of my screen when it happens. This time something generated autoreply “Haha”:
Thanks for any input!
It’s not a Signal feature so its likely an app that has the permission to “display over other apps”. Search your Android settings for “display over other apps” and see what apps have this permission. On my phone only Phone, Google, and Google Play Protect Services are allowed. Disable anything else and test. If its not any other app, its probably the keyboard, since keyboards have permission to overlay input fields (I think).
It’s always safe to assume that Google doesn’t actually turn off services that you tell it to turn off.
Yeah… Wish I could afford something decent and put GrapheneOS on it… though the supported devices seem to have pitiful amounts of storage, too, because why not just put everything in Google’s cloud? 😑
