There is no uniform voting system for the election of [Members of the European Parliament]; rather, each member state is free to choose its own system, subject to certain restrictions:
- The system must be a form of proportional representation, under either the party list or the single transferable vote system.
I feel like if we did end up joining the EU, just seeing how proportional representation functions would help people with onboarding that as a better voting system.
I really hope EU membership gains traction, I think it would be a huge benefit in so many ways. Freedom of movement alone would be a game changer for things like our healthcare system. Enabling EU citizens to more easily move to Canada and bolster our various industries would be exactly what we need, with the additional markets that would open up, to kick our economy into high gear.
