President Donald Trump says he has directed the Treasury Department to stop minting new pennies, citing the rising cost of producing the one-cent coin.
This is a good idea, but it feels nefarious given the context. Assuming it’s on the level, do nickels, too. Let’s just round to 1 decimal place.
Maybe not nefarious, since it’s been a public idea for decades. He does like to put forward those ideas like he’s the one that thought of it. This one’s a net positive so let’s just let him play with the unplugged controller on this one.
Unless it turns out he and/or Elon bought something with copper. Which wouldn’t surprise me.

I’m against cashless society, but I’m also for getting rid of the penny. We should have done it at least a decade ago. I carry cash and keep some change in my car, the penny is worthless.
