They do have a bit of a catfood consistency, don’t they? They haven’t really changed much IMO. If you didn’t like them before, you probably won’t now.
On the occasion I do make em, I normally squish them down in the pan since the outer layer browns and crisps up fairly nicely. The weird consistency is much less noticeable that way.
Are their burgers any good yet? Last one I had was like eating bloody cat food. I’ll probably stick with seitan burgers either way.

Weird, I never got that consistenc off them. I thought they were really good! Also, the sausages are great!
