Following the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, 14-year-old Valery “kept going on about this Ukraine,” his grandmother recollects.

“He expressed his opposition to the war,” she sighs. “He asked, ‘Why did we attack our brothers?’ and things like that. And what could I say? I replied, ‘It’s not for you and me to say!’ How would we know? Who are we? And we ceased discussing this subject.

The Russian approach to politics in a nutshell.

They have shopping carts! And fresh bread in multiple varieties! Oh how I long for the day I don’t have drag a six-month-old stale loaf of Wonder Bread, the only bread available in American supermarkets, through the store.

“But I did nothing wrong” – the boy who dared challenge Putin’s ideology.

Look, kid, if you speak out against things Poots says are OK, you’re going to prison, simple as.

Gotta be a mindless yes-man automaton, or suffer the consequences. Get any idea of independent thought out of your head and consider yourself lucky you weren’t standing near any windows.

Although I can understand the feeling, let’s hope that it does not get there. It might end ugly for all… 🤔

I feel like you imagined the other commenter suggesting “Nuke Russia” and you’re saying that’s a bad idea.

The people who downvoted you probably interpreted the previous comment as simply “Destroy the Kremlin” and thought you were defending Russia, lol

Did anyone else read the whole article and see that this kid, while undoubtedly pro-Ukraine and anti-Putin, was a full-blown neo-Nazi?

The avatar of the “Valera Mirny” profile features a photo of the chevron of the Ukrainian Azov Brigade. Among the images in the gallery are a picture of hands with the middle finger raised against the background of police cars, as well as a photograph of Valery himself. Another page, with the nickname “Valera Pringles,” is concealed; an individual with that name is a member of a community titled “National Squad. Amur Battalion SSNIDO” with an image of a kolovrat(A traditional Slavic symbol, resembling a swastika with curved or straight arms. Widely used by nationalist groups in Russia) on the avatar. Based on the information in the community, it was created on February 25, 2022, one day after the invasion started, and in January 2023, the group with three subscribers changed its name. “SSNIDO stands for ‘Union of Free Nations and Friendly Relations’,” the public page description states.

Azov is the notorious neo-Nazi faction of the Ukrainian army.

They called themselves “National Squad” and put “SS” in their name. They used a swastika logo.

I mean, fuck Putin and all, but this is just fascists eating fascists.
