I think it has been happening for a while now cancel culture had a very negative effect on academia Jordon Peterson and Warren Smith being examples of that. I much appreciate Dr. Sam Richards who walks the fine line of trying to be centerist but he did comment recently how he does gets hate from both sides. Now I know this is going to be down voted because some will say I am both sidesing this when it’s clearly one side right now. This is true I think that’s however not a great argument to start a conversation. the founding fathers gave us a great foundation to work with it just takes open dialogue to convince enough of the other side that their is an actual good counter argument. The violence we have seen in the past couple months is only going to entrench positions because each side will want the result of that violence to have been meaningful furthering solidifing the separation. Currently I think American agree on the vast majority of things social media just does it’s best to highlight our differences but the average person has mostly the same culture and the same day to day issues so I actually am hopeful.

I think this is the right spot to share this comment, but perhaps I can not articulate correctly why. This post is “both sidening” this in my opinion, it tries to calm the discussion while irreversible changes are done on the old brittle systems of the united states (court system, executive branch – ICE). Like defending the status quo system with a clearly trump loyalist supreme court. “the founding fathers gave us a great foundation to work with it” while the system has clear flaws, especially the supreme court imo.
Also to present Jordon Peterson as holding a centrist position and should be defended at all costs by centrist, that position sounds weird to me.
Please tell me if I should post this somewhere else, and better counters to this post.
the founding fathers gave us a great foundation to work with
lol the foundation that collapsed into civil war in ~75 years?

Americans agree on the vast majority of things so much that there definitely were not progressive movements in the past that ran directly in conflict with not only the state, but also with the average conservative and liberal. Or even similar movements in present day. What’s an abortion rights or a BLM, anyways? Must be a social media thing. Those darn ipad kids
Minor disagreements on the treatment of poor (working) people and vaccination and religion and … more
This guy should be cancelled solely for his inability to actually get the fucking point! And I though I rambled too much when I post.
HN is a hub for yuppie startup hustlers well versed in Silicon Valley jingoism, that also happens to let anyone who wants to larp that lifestyle mingle with them.
In essence almost every user thinks they are tech Jesus and you’re gonna get their opinion on whatever the title of the post is as though it’s the tech gospel.
Does explain why they are trying really, really, really fucking hard to sound smart by being unnecessarily verbose.
