Tourists from Israel are stuck in Bosnia and Herzegovina, more precisely in a hotel in Sarajevo, because the hotel staff threw away their passports, Žarko Laketa, director of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs, confirmed to BHRT.

Laketa stated that there were 50 tourists involved, and that everything happened by accident.

The tourists were supposed to return to Israel yesterday, but without their passports they could not do so, so they stayed in the hotel. Some passengers expressed doubts that it was not just a mistake.

Not the worst has happened to them, they’re effectively back where they came from, well-deserved anyway.

Uh, why does the hotel have 50 peoples’ passports?

Is that a thing that people do? Let the hotel keep their passports?

Yea that’s what’s wild to me. I absolutely always 100% keep my passport on my person when I travel. It never leaves my side, ever.

most hotels will have a hotel safe and sometimes an individual room safe and your belongings are usually only protected from theft (insurance wise) if stored in a hotel safe. Leaving your passport in the hotel safe is completely normal especially for a multiple night stay. With so many thrown out it sounds like they were all being stored together in the hotel safe. oopsie accidents happen
