Look at that motion blur! They must be going 50! And she’s not watching the road!
No wonder accidents are on the rise smh
Thank goodness for objective journalism to make us aware of these threats.

According to a University of California San Francisco (UCSF) study, injuries involving e-bikes surged more than 3,000% across the country between 2017 and 2022, and e-scooter injuries jumped more than 560% during the same time.
Something tells me that the number isn’t as significant as it seems when news use percent instead of number. 3 injuries with 300 riders and 90 injuries with 50k riders is 3000% surge, i too know how to play with numbers.
A man rides an electric scooter along Polk Street on July 29, 2024 in San Francisco, California. According to a University of California San Francisco (UCSF) study, injuries involving e-bikes surged more than 3,000% across the country between 2017 and 2022, and e-scooter injuries jumped more than 560% during the same time.
So this is essentially the entire piece. Not so much as a link to the original study. How much did e-bike/scooter usage increase over that period? How many of these injuries were caused by vehicles? How did urban infrastructure—or lack thereof—contribute to any of this?
This reminds me of articles I’ve read on The Telegraph. Any UK people here? What is the deal with that rag? Why do they hate e-bikes so much? I read Apple News for certain paywalled sites, and they’re the first paper I’ve actually had to block. (I think the final straw was their recent diatribe over the blight of solar panels.) Do they just have a particularly curmudgeonly op-editor or is it the whole culture with them?
Ah yes the media and their views that anything that is not weighing 1.5 tons with an enclosed space, reduced visibility and the potential to kill other humans and/or animals, is unsafe.
Those damn e-scooter users, dying, and killing people left and right. Just like those dangerous cyclists that don’t want to wait multiple minutes at a red light under the punishing sun, or the rain, while car drivers in their sealed space patiently and carefully respect every rules.
No, cars are the only safe form of transport. Cars don’t injure. Cars don’t kill people. Cars dont kill millions of animals every year.
If society is devolving into chaos it’s because people are using smaller, DaNgErOuS contraptions to move around!
Heavy sarcasm aside, e-scooters are banned in my city, not because of their “dangers” but because investment capitalists dumped thousands of e-scooters in the city and they were just laying everywhere. But a lot a users were rolling on the sidewalks so it was kind of nice when they disappeared. It’s not lethal to pedestrians but it was annoying as fuck to have to dodge them. However, it’s also understandable why some don’t want to be in the streets (or stroads) with cars.
