Yeah I suspect the aliens who do support the rebellion are probably those being impacted by Imperial policy. That or they have their own autonomous resistances.
The Rebellion’s official name is “The Alliance to Restore the Republic”, it’s a group of autonomous resistances acting in coordination. This is old canon I think but one of the big ones are the squid people who supply the Alliance with ships.
I actually knew that but I find it a bit weird now because Andor seems to imply that there were a lot of pro-separatist factions in the rebellion. I think Andor himself was in a pro-Confederation militia before the events of the show.
In both legends and canon Separatists holdouts do play an important part in the early rebellion, but eventually get sideline by the coreworld republicans

Mon Calamari, yeah, the species Admiral Akbar is. I don’t think it’s ever stated in the movie, but all the more round ships in ROTJ were theirs, meant to contrast with the much more angular human designs.
