Honestly, if you have to ask so broadly you shouldn’t. Chances are good you make a fatal mistake and your server starts harassing other servers or giving out CSAM.

Pictures don’t propagate across (most) instances now, its just links to images on the host instance.
I mean in general. Having a server connected to the internet is always a risk. Doesn’t have to be Lemmy that’s exploited.
And if they have an open registration it’s still their servee that can be used to distribute images unchecked.
