Top Trump official Stephen Miller’s recent declaration that anyone who “preaches hate for America” will face deportation has ignited alarm online, with critics warning the statement disregards First Amendment protections.

Social media users and legal analysts raised immediate concerns, pointing out that expressing dissent or criticism of the government is protected under the First Amendment. Some worried the administration was veering into authoritarian territory.

The backlash has reignited broader debates over the limits of free speech, especially as civil liberties fall under scrutiny. While immigration enforcement remains a core theme of President Donald Trump’s platform, critics are increasingly questioning whether rhetoric like Miller’s is a precursor to more aggressive suppression of dissent.

I don’t know if they can legally deport someone just for saying certain things about the country. 1st amendment sounds like it should protect against this. Someone need to drag this to the supreme court before legally innocent people get targeted and deported. and if someone is a citizen and never traveled where would they deport them to?

That’s already happening, they’re getting tortured in El Salvador. No due process, just sending people straight to the camps for their speech, protests, or looks

Then someone needs to bring it to the supreme court asap, because that is taking it too far since it’s clearly violating some laws. WHy are people just letting this happen, when it seems like the law should be on ones side? The Trump adminstr, is picking and choosing what laws it wants in its own favor to enforce, or ignore.

Well, historically, they’re a group of assholes who wanted to kill millions of people, Jewish people specifically. Today, it still holds true. The Nazis still want to kill millions of Jews. Many of them extended it to everyone who isn’t a Nazi too.

Oh, I don’t need proof. Lemmy has shown me that we can just call anyone who disagrees with us “nazis.” Oh and we can call them “fascists” too. It’s easy. Everyone does it!

So ewww, the Dems/liberals are such nazis and fascists. And hey, if you support them, then you are a fascist nazi too.

                I’m just following Lemmy’s example. :)

Fart, you already know what I think. I think Hamas are effectively Nazis.

And I know what you think, you think Israel are Nazis. Hell, you probably think I’m one too. So what’s the goal here?

I’ve never said or implied that I think you’re a Nazi so please don’t blame me for things you’re fabricating out of whole cloth.

This article is about Miller saying that American citizens should be deported for disagreeing with the current administration so when you said that Nazis should be deported before they can kill millions you were taking about Hamas?

I didn’t realize there were many in the United States.

Sorry about that, I don’t know why I thought you specifically called me a Nazi.

And he doesn’t say citizens. You can’t deport a citizen. There’s been a lot of ruckus over green card holders, but they are not citizens. Bit of a difference there.

Hamas supporters? There’s a few, and there’s no reason we should let them stay or let them in in the first place.
