Reddit improved their anti-ban evasion system, cuz it’s the sixth or more failed attempt at evading a permanent ban. Never more, I am staying here.

FUCK YOU, SPEZ!

I’m in the process of deleting my posts in a few accounts in preparation to delete them.

Reddit isn’t the same place it was when I first signed up. On so many levels it proceeded to get worse year after year. Shitty mods, paid political bot brigading to drown out discussion, general discourse devolution, innovation decline of generally loved features are some of my biggest complaints of that platform.

Don’t get me wrong reddit was always a bit of anarchy, but the best comments somehow managed to rise up. Not so much anymore. Maybe I’m just getting old and some of the comment contents don’t interest me in the same way it used to.

I don’t mind being part of this community even though some of the sub’s have less activity. The activity seems to be of a better quality for the most part imho.

For me I don’t miss reddit at all.

Maybe they wouldn’t have problem with ban evasion if they weren’t giving out bans the drop of a hat

Everything is being automated. The Admins are automated. The mods are increasingly automated. The subs are filled with botspam. The comments (have always been, but are now overwhelmingly) filled with bot-chatter.

The end goal of Reddit is to automate away anything that might cut into the company’s bottom line. I’m convinced they’re going to functionally do away with the comments section sooner or later. Just set up a byzantine set of bureaucratic hurdles that no human can actually clear. Then all that’s left is the bots, and all you are allowed to do is look through the glass at the simulation.

      That’s not exclusive to Reddit.

Looks at 196 here on Lemmy and their massive pissy baby ban list.

Edit: If you disagree, go look at the bans and their reasoning in the mod log. It’s insane, and I mean that word in the literal sense. Some fun things: they ban people for not agreeing with them vocally enough. They’ve banned people for arguing that the world isn’t beyond saving if we try. They’ve banned because (and I quote) “Get out of here with that my children matter shit”. It’s a lunatic brigade run by a clown.

They are something else. Think like TheDonald was on Reddit, but for trans people and memes.

My first exposure to them was a thread by a mod saying that you MUST post absolute and unconditional not just approval, but promotion of what they say politically or you will be banned. It was fucking wild and nearly put me off Lemmy altogether.

We decided that user input needs to be for advertisers, no one else. By promoting toxicity, we could have people buy stuff only from those toxic communities.

Of course. Companies listen to their customers, not their product.

Ugh. So much to unpack here.

First off, you have to act like a massive shit-loaf to get perma’ed from Reddit in the first place. Now you’re declaring your love for this community because you can’t get back into Reddit.

    Welcome, I guess.

I had an account perma’d there for saying “the only good nazi is a dead nazi” which I accept was against TOS but would argue does not make me a “massive shit-loaf”

Who can say, right? The gears of Reddit are inscrutable.

That said, when you engage with an extremist, there’s always 20 other extremists looking at your replies and just waiting to report you if you say the slightest mean thing. They are mucilaginous troglodytes and one mustn’t extend to them the credence that they’re dealing in good faith.

It’s actually not too hard to get perma’d due to a handful of bullshit/nonsensical bans that just stack up over time. Also, they were VERY liberal with the permaban hammer around when they announced the API lockdown.
