Read the first chapter of the original novel by Robert A. Heinlein. Best space battle ever written.

The troops wear powered armor and carry nuclear weapons, flame throwers, and other fun toys.

They strap into pods and are blasted at the planet at 10 G’s acceleration like giant bullets.

As the pods ablate they fill the sky with chaff. Parachutes slow the troops down to a reasonable landing speed.

On the ground they blast away, then form up to be retrieved by a jump ship.

The director of the first movie had also done RoboCop and didn’t want to be remembered as an armor director.
