Don’t worry. He is our Susan Collins.

Despite all of his rhetoric, Mr. Fetterman so far has voted like a reliable Democratic foot soldier.

When everyone left of fascism is in a single party now, there’s bound to be some divisions in people’s actual beliefs within the D party. It’s unsurprising that some Democrats are going to be more moderate in some areas than others, this is what coalition government looks like, and is a healthy part of a working democracy.

It’d be better if we had ranked choice voting nationally, and could allow for smaller parties to win national seats. But short of that future, I don’t mind Fetterman voicing his thoughts and voting party line when it matters.

This shit needs to stop. Anyone to the right of you is right wing, we get it. You don’t allow dissent or disagreement in the left so everyone who isn’t with you on every issue is the enemy right? You know what that sounds like right?

A lot of people who claim to be left on here, are doing everything possible to push people away from the left, and chasing off allies with this “no true leftist” bullshit.

Worldly Biden is on the right. That’s a fact. In American terms he is slightly left. IMO.

This is only even close to true if you think ‘worldly’ is western Europe plus like 3 other countries. It doesn’t matter what the rest of the world thinks counts as left and right wing. Biden is a left wing American Democrat, this is such a stupid argument.

The words “right” and “left” politically mean the same thing they did 200 years ago. Left means you view human rights as paramount over property rights, and “Right” means you view property rights as more important than human rights. This means the dividing line is pretty clear. Capitalism, as a system, depends on property rights being enforced at the expense of people (see, being allowed to own empty residential property while people are homeless), and is therefore the dividing line. Left of center is anti-private property and anti-capital, and right of center is pro-private property rights and pro capitalism.

Not just that: people who campaigned for him were wary of the risk he might turn right once elected. So he went out early to really convince the leftist coalitions backing him he was legit and definitely not going to do exactly what he did.

Progressives should start running as centrists. They’ll only have to run against one party instead of two, and centrists have made it clear that they will run as progressives.

I’m super disappointed in him. Was a big fan of his when I saw him run, and I really liked some of the things I heard about him, like how he got a tattoo marking the date of death for each of 9 people in his city who were murdered while he was mayor. It really made me think that he felt the heavy burden of responsibility and wanted to make the world a better place.

But this… I mean, this ain’t it. It does get a little complicated because of his stroke. I don’t know how much of the personality he’s currently displaying to the world was endemic in him before the stroke. It could be that this has been who he was the entire time, and he just hid it from the world. Either way, though, I think it’s clear that he represents a lot of unfulfilled hope. Granted, he’s likely still better than Oz, but that’s a pretty damned low bar. Fingers crossed he gets beat in the next election by someone who delivers on the hope that Fetterman originally promised.

Being critical of our representatives enables fascism? In what fucking world? Look, I’m an asshole when it comes to pointing out Fascists here on lemmy but what in the fuck are you on about? Don’t be like the GOP and treat the Dems like they’re saints. They have a lot of work to do, but it’s also wise to look at their fuck ups and call them out.

Yeah, fascist trolls love to accuse others of being fascists and John Fetterman is a huge supporter of the Zionist regime who similarly resorts to acting like a total asshole, even to his own supposed colleagues. A stroke can change your personality, a check will change your entire political world view.

Hasn’t Fetterman been getting tons of criticism for being exactly that, being to the right of most leftists/liberals? Do you think that’s overblown and he’s still mostly on the side of the left?

I hope you can tell how clueless many of us feel having read your initial comments. You’re not doing a great job of communicating what you think and why. Granted, you don’t have to, and it’s a bit annoying how much patience is required, but if you don’t others will likely not care to ask you to explain. Anyway, just a thought as I’ve been realizing I need to get better at communicating - I’m probably overdoing it now ;)

            Yes.

But leftists and liberals are not the same. Liberals are already rightism-apologists (also see: “enlightened centrist”), and Fetterman has proven to be solidly to the right of even your garden variety liberals. Dude is Manchin sans the overt corruption.
