Dear all,

I cannot be a member of an organisation that participates in the demonisation of transgender people in order to deepen divisions within the working class. I therefore resign from the Party, effective immediately.

I had hoped that the Party might adjust its views on transgender people. Unfortunately the Party leadership has only deepened its reactionary outlook, and continues to present the existence and rights of transgender people as a contradiction with the aims of feminism. This has been evident for some time, but has come to a head with the statement released concerning the Supreme Court decision concerning the definition of a woman. This decision has the direct effect of further removing transgender people from public life, and has come about through lobbying by intensely reactionary, fascist, and fascist-adjacent groups, as well as one particularly hateful billionaire. What a curious set of allies the “Communist” party has.

This type of divide and rule tactic is characteristic not of a party of the proletariat, but of a deeply reactionary and ossified Party that has not, can not, and will not be an organisation of positive social change, let alone lead a revolution. The Party is a cheerleader for the persecution of particularly demonised section of the proletariat and looks to be on course to be a collaborator in the deepening material deprivation and scapegoating of transgender people. We all know what happens to scapegoated and materially deprived minorities in an increasingly fascistic society.

To hear this reactionary rhetoric dressed up in “Marxism”, “materialism”, and “feminsim” makes me feel physically ill. I must note that the approach of couching transphobia in feminism and materialism is a very British phenomenon. My female comrades from Greece and the US have expressed shock that this type of trans exclusionary position could be seen to have any basis in feminism. In Britain, there is at least a glimmer of hope from a small nascent Marxist-Leninist party.

Lenin in a 1920 speech spoke of the reactionary and opportunist nature of the Labour Party. Over 100 years later, his assertions about the Labour Party can not only be applied to their original subject, but also to the Communist Party of Britain. Thus, the Communist Party of Britain is a thoroughly bourgeois party, because, although made up of workers, it is led by reactionaries, and the worst kind of reactionaries at that, who act quite in the spirit of the bourgeoisie. It is an organisation of the bourgeoisie, which exists to systematically dupe those who might otherwise form a democratic centralist vanguard party of the proletariat.

I would encourage those who believe in justice, liberty, and socialism to join me in resigning. I will continue to engage in organising in the trade union, peace, and antifascist (which includes antitransphobia) movements, and push a principled Marxist-Leninist approach in both theory and practice.

With hope for a better world,
